UKCA Accreditation Options

To meet the specific needs of your business and your products, DEKRA offers two different paths for UKCA accreditation.

Option 1: Certification by DEKRA

DEKRA can handle your certification in-house, and the process can begin immediately. DEKRA has applied to become a UK Approved Body (UKAB), and the final accreditation is expected in October 2021. Once this accreditation is received, DEKRA will then be able to complete your certification process seamlessly.
The Process
  1. We undertake an IECEx/ATEX update project to certify that the product meets the latest editions of applicable EN standards.
  2. You receive the UKEx certificate number. For example: DEKRA 21UKEx1234.
  3. You update documentation, manuals, marking plate and technical drawings with the UKCA marking, UKEx certification number, and/or applicable EN standards.
  4. National differences assessed by DEKRA and included in the UKCA requirements on marking and instructions.
  5. A draft certificate is prepared.
  6. After the accreditation of DEKRA Certification Ltd as UKAB (expected October 2021), a new application form between DEKRA Certification Ltd and your organization will be prepared. Once signed and reviewed by DEKRA, the final review and UKCA Certification is complete. This final step will take approximately one week.
Category 3 equipment does not require UKAB accreditation and can be UKCA certified by DEKRA immediately.

Option 2: Certification by a DEKRA partner

DEKRA also offers certification through UKAB accredited partners. The process is similar to Option 1, but the UKEx certification is issued through a third party. Total project time is approximately six weeks.
The Process
  1. Your organization obtains an IECEx/ATEX test report to certify that the product meets the latest editions of the applicable EN Standards.
  2. DEKRA provides a quote from a selected partner.
  3. An application form between the DEKRA partner and your organization is prepared and signed.
  4. You receive the UKEx certificate number. For example: Partner 21UKEx1234.
  5. You update documentation, manuals, marking plate and technical drawings with the UKCA marking, UKEx certification number, and/or applicable EN standards.
  6. National differences assessed by DEKRA and included in the UKCA requirements on marking and instructions.
  7. DEKRA reviews application and materials.
  8. Partner completes final review and certification.
  9. If needed, a separate QAN will be based on a DEKRA audit report.
